Dancer and Teacher

Chethan Gangatkar nurtured an interest in classical dance from his childhood. He started learning Bharatanatyam under Guru Dr. Sanjay Shantaram and Smt. Shama Sanjay and under their tutelage his arangetrum took place he later furthered his training under Guru Dr Suparna Venkatesh. His serious interest for the art-from, having been showered with the right amount of nourishment, lead to his opting for this divine platform as his profession. He completed his graduation in choreography from the Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography headed by Guru Dr. Maya Rao. During his graduation at the Natya Institute he was exposed to various dance forms such as Kathak, Yakshagana,several folk dance traditions of India including martial art which brought a sprightly effervescence to his talent, he has undergone training in nattuvangam under guru sri prasanna kumar and is also graded artist of doordarshan Kendra. Chethan is now pursuing his masters in bharatanatyam from the Bangalore University and feels that learning process must never stop….

Chandra prabha chethan started learning bharathanatyam at the tender age three from Karnataka Kala Shree Guru smt.Manjula paramesh. She is a graduate in microbiology and masters in bharathanatyam from Bangalore University. Chandra has completed her vidwat examination in bharatanatyam, she is a recipient of state and central scholarship for dance and in nattuvangam from nrittya academy, empanelled as “A” grade artist at Central Song and Drama Division Bangalore and an empanelled artist in ICCR. She has been featured in many dance dramas and dance programmes for doordarshan, having been recognized as a grade artist.  She was successful in completing her Rangapravesha in Bharatanatyam and gained appreciation by the press and audience alike.

NATYA NINADA NRITYALAYA offers classes in ‘Bharatanatyam’ from basic through advanced levels taught by artistic directors, Chethan and Chandra.

NATYA NINADA NRITYALAYA is the brain child of husband and wife duo Chethan Chandra whose vision is to train and guide devoted students and to make them realize their artistic potential and seek artistic fulfillment in learning Bharatanatyam .The Institute has 150 devoted students, many of them have completed their arengetrum and dance exams scoring high marks bringing recognition to the gurus and the Institute.

From a purely performance oriented entity natyaninada has evolved into a multifaceted Dance Company which has to its credit more than 300 shows.

Chethan Chandra’s vision is to train and guide devoted students to realize their artistic potential and seek artistic fulfillment in learning Bharatanatyam. The highly disciplined process is meant to enrich the student’s creative instincts and broaden their understanding of other cultures and art forms. The process involves imparting of relevant information, refined technique, and divinity in dance.

Internationally reputed dancer, choreographer, teacher, writer, academician & dance curator, Dr.Maya Rao is the only Indian with a Post Graduate certificate in Choreography from the USSR. She is the recipient of several awards including the National Award (President of India Award) for Choreography from the Sangeet Natak Academy (1989), the Karnataka State Sangeet Nritya Academy Award (1968), the prestigious Shantala Award from the Govt. of Karnataka (2000), the Emeritus Fellowship from the H.R.D. Govt. of India (1999), Rajyotsava Award from Karnataka State in 1986 for spreading awareness of Indian Dance and Culture, and an honorary doctorate from Bangalore University. She has led cultural delegations to over 30 countries, creating awareness and sharing the rich dance heritage of India worldwide. Dr. Maya Rao has been invited to Europe, USA, USSR, on many occasions as a consultant choreographer and as a Jury member for international projects. She has trained overviewer 3000 students & runs India's only degree college of choreography - The Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography (NIKC). She has received several awards like the Prestigious Sangeeth Natak Academy Award from the President of India, The Tagore Ratna National Award, The Delhi State Sahitya Kala Parishat Award, Distinguished Konkani Award from the TMA Pai Foundation, Manipal. Nritya Vilas from Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai, Natya Kalaratna from Gayana Samaj, Bangalore, Distinguished Guru Award from The Kannada Koota, USA.

Karnataka Kala Shree Guru Smt Manjula Paramesh

She is a disciple of guru Smt. Vasantha Lakshmi( Adyar Kalakshetra, Chennai, India). She is the gifted artist with mastery over both dance and music. A perfectionist, self esteemed, philosopher, ambitious, an optimist with immense talent. She is a dedicated teacher who is not just a teacher, but a guide, well wisher and a friend to the students who come to her seeking proficiency in this enchanting art form. Recognizing her immense contribution to dance and music the govt of Karnataka conferred her Karnataka kalashree award.

Guru Dr Sanjay Shantaram

A child prodigy, initially trainingunder the tutelage of Guru Smt. G.S. Rajalakshmi, was enthralled by the way he showed remarkable progress and saw no way back. He secured the first rank for the state in his junior and senior grade bharathanatyam dance examination conducted by the Karnataka secondary education board. He has won the first place several times in both state and national dance competitions the most popular one being “All India dance competition “ conducted by the navya nataka samithi – Hyderabad in the year 1992 for which he secured the gold medal. He also is a recipient of the dance scholarship awarded by the government of Karnataka and is a regular artist auditioned by the national network – doordarshan. He then continued his training in the field of bharathanatyam under late Guru Smt Narmada and kuchipudi under Guru Smt. Sunanda Devi.His noteworthy achievement was when he was awarded the degree as the Bachelors of dental surgery in the year 1997. He opened his dance institution “Shiva Priya School of dance” in the year 1989 which then started of with a handful of students and now teaches more than 150 students in the divine form of bharathanatyam, kuchipudi and folk dances of India. He has toured Muscat where he performed for an eight day Indian folk dance festival. In 1998 he toured the united kingdom under a contract with The Indian dance –Wales and performed at Cardiff, London. Manchester, Birmingham etc. He has also performed in Singapore and in each place left the audience spellbound and extremely happy. Today Sanjay a multitalented person is managing his time as a dentist, a dancer, a teacher , as a singer for all the dance programs and as an actor intends to devote his life for the field of art , train and guide more and more students to follow his footsteps and achieve the best of satisfaction in the career of dance.

DR. Suparna Venkatesh Bharathanatyam and Kathak Artist, Teacher & Choreographer, Mentor of Visually Challenged Dancers.

Dr. Suparna Venkatesh had her initial instructions and training in Bharathanatyam under Guru. Smt. Jayalakshmi Alva and Guru. Sri.Ramakrishna Alva, at Mangalore, D.K. Karnataka and under their tutelage her Arangetram took place in the year 1981. She furthered her training in Bharathnatyam under Guru. Smt. Narmada (Awardee of Sangeeth Natak Academy). After graduating in Commerce, she did her Diploma in Choreography at the Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography, Bangalore. While at Bangalore she trained in Kathak under Guru. Dr. Maya Rao, and Guru. Smt. Chitra Venugopal. Suparna obtained her Master's degree in dance from the Bangalore University. Post her Masters degree, she obtained M.Phil from the same University and Doctorate for her research done in the field of Devadasi's contribution to Dance art in Karnataka's region. She is, currently, a guest faculty to the department of performing arts at the Bangalore Univesity, and Natya College of Kathak and Choreography. She is also on the committee constituted by the Secondary Education Board, for bringing out Text Book in Kathak Dance. Apart from performing as a solo artist in both Bharathanatyam and Kathak, she has taken lead roles in dance projects of eminent choreographers. During her sojourn she honed her dance skills under Dr. Padma Subramaniam, Guru. Sri. T.K.Mahalingam Pillai, Guru. Sonar Chand and Guru. Shashidhar Acharya. Suparna has learnt several folk dance traditions of India including martial arts under renowned folk artists. Her teaching in her dance school "Sai Arts International" has produced several dancers who have carved a niche for themselves bringing joyous recognition as an able guru. She has conducted several workshops in India and abroad. Her current involvement in training the visually challenged to perform the complex classical dance of Bharathanatyam, has taken her across continents. She has showcased her methodology and results of her training in several concert shows that are inclusive of nature, in several workshops in High Security prisons and Motivation workshops in Rehabilitation centers in hospitals and in schools for children with special needs. Dr. Suparna Venkatesh along with her husband Sri Sai Venkatesh, has been conducting on the first day of every month, Sai Nrityotsav, an only one of its kind in the country under private sector, in providing platforms to dancers. She has choreographed ballets and dance features as her home productions and has associated with several educational Institutions in Bangalore and outside to put up shows based on Indian classical dance traditions. Dr. Suparna Venkatesh is always remembered for her technical virtuosity in both Bharathanatyam and Kathak and her Abhinaya is simply awesome.
